“The ocean has a funny way of bringing things back to life.” This idea guides my artwork and the materials I work with. Growing up along the shore, I’ve formed my own love affair with the sea, and all that it offers. The endless array of colors and moving textures of the water remain ever-changing, regardless of time or place. The surfboard has been a key character in my life, representing much of my childhood and even adulthood. I like to work with used boards, and repurpose them using various mediums; manipulating the aesthetics of a surfboard that has for so long served only one purpose, and allowing it to represent something new.

Whether it is epoxy, acrylic, oil, or ink, I aim to express feelings of an oceanic environment that one could not reach without physically being there. A feeling that is nautical and imaginative at the same time. A feeling that can only be experienced, never thought. No matter what emotion you might experience, the important thing is that you are feeling something.

At the same time, I am also exploring the importance of giving back through my artwork. I work closely with the Surfrider Foundation to make small, continuous donations with each commission. This nonprofit foundation strives to keep our beaches and oceans free of pollution, which inspires me to continue creating works that both highlight beauty and force viewers to look differently at our beautiful Jersey Shore.
